Development of an Agricultural Marketing Information System Plan for Sierra Leone


Project Description

In an effort to respond to the need for efficient marketing information systems, the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLEIPA) requested consulting services from NestBuilders International (NBI) for the development of a Market Information Systems (MIS) Plan. The Plan is expected to direct and lay the foundations for a national MIS system which will increase the efficiency of the agricultural sector by providing key stakeholders with pertinent and timely information for decision making – thereby furthering the agenda of agricultural investment and export promotion. The specific objectives of the assignment were to: (1) Assess the market information needs of producers, exporters and other stakeholders in relation to priority export sectors, destination markets and trade policy issues; (2) Assess current market information service capacity and information management practices; (3) Design a detailed market information system development plan that sets out the details of man power need, information resources and equipment required for the launch and effective operation of a Market Information System (MIS).
